Mazda Recalls Over 50,000 Vehicles for Fire Hazard
Japanese auto manufacturer Mazda Motor Corporation has issued a recall on more than 52,000 Mazda Tribute SUVs, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the recall report issued by the NHTSA, the SUVs have a problem with leaking brake fluid that can result in a fire inside the vehicle.
The affected vehicles’ brake master cylinder reservoir cap may leak brake fluid that will drip onto the brake system’s electrical connectors, causing them to melt, smoke, and possibly catch on fire, which could in turn lead to a serious auto accident in San Diego. Vehicles included in the recall are Tribute SUVs from the 2001 and 2002 model years. The auto defect is very similar to a Ford Motor Co. recall from the beginning of January which saw Escape SUVs from the same model years require work due to leaking brake fluid and a possible electrical fire.

Mazda has begun informing owners of the affected vehicles and recommends that owners of the vehicles park them outside in order to prevent any fires that may occur from damaging other property or starting a house fire. Mazda will replace the reservoir cap and modify the brake system free of charge.
