Fatal U.S. Car Accidents by the Numbers

By San Diego Car Accident Lawyer on September 30, 2013 - Comments off

San Diego Car CrashCar accidents happen every day in the United States. For many people involved in a car crash, the event is no more than an inconvenience; many car accident victims walk away without injuries. For others, however, the event is life-changing. A serious crash can leave any person involved with permanently disabling injuries. The most serious crashes cause death.

According to data gathered by the U.S. Census Bureau, the United States saw 30,979 fatal car accidents in 2009. While most of these accidents were one-vehicle crashes, more than 12,000 involved two or more vehicles. Fatal car accidents were most likely to claim the lives of one or more people in the vehicle itself. Of over 33,000 total deaths, 24,000 were suffered by drivers and passengers, while the remaining 9,000 were suffered by bicyclists, pedestrians, and other individuals involved in the accidents. In addition, more than 4,400 motorcyclists lost their lives in car accidents in 2009. » Read More

NFL Football Player Ryan Mathews Involved in Car Accident in San Diego

By San Diego Car Accident Lawyer on August 3, 2012 - Comments off

In an attempt to enter Interstate 8, Ryan Mathews, the running back for the San Diego Chargers, got into a car accident in San Diego with another vehicle Monday night on July 30, 2012. Thankfully, Mathews suffered only minor injuries and was listed as “day to day.” The driver in the other car was not injured.
Mathews stated that after he watched a movie, he was driving to the team hotel when the accident occurred as he was turning a corner to enter Interstate 8. He was surprised that he lost control and got into an accident since he was very use to driving that route to work every day.
Mathews was immediately taken to the hospital to be examined for further injuries and has since been released. The football player hurt his elbow a little, and it felt like he had played multiple games by the next morning.
According to Mary Bailey, a CHP (California Highway Patrol) Officer, it is suspected that Mathews was driving too fast and lost control of his 2010 BMW car. Bailey also added that there was no evidence to assume that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Although it is still unclear when Mathews will start practicing with his teammates and how long it will take to fully recover from his minor injuries, he still attended the Chargers practice on Tuesday. According to San Diego Union Tribune reporter Michael Gehlken, Mathews watched the practice from the sidelines and did not participate in the physical practice.
Luckily, no one was severely hurt from this accident. It is important to remember that there are over 13,000 lives lost each year as a result of speeding, according to the National Safety Council. Take every precaution necessary when getting behind the wheel because accidents can easily happen on a road that we drive to work every single day.

Mother and Kids Hurt In San Diego I-5 Multiple-Vehicle Wreck

By San Diego Car Accident Lawyer on July 5, 2012 - Comments off

A mother and her children sustained minor injuries in a multiple vehicle crash that took place on June 27 around 9:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) near 28th Street in Grant Hill. According to California Highway Patrol, a man driving a pickup truck to Mexico lost control and rolled his truck after being cut off by another motorist.
The truck landed in the slow lane. A van, attempting to avoid the accident, was rear-ended at a high rate of speed by a silver sports car. The mother and kids in the van were treated on the accident scene by responding paramedics.
California Highway Patrol closed the southbound freeway lanes for about an hour to investigate the accident and clear the debris. Though it is unclear what caused the crash, officers need to look into whether alcohol, drugs, or reckless driving played a role on this multiple vehicle crash.
If excessive speed is determined to be a major factor in the accident, then the at-fault driver who cut off the truck could be held financially responsible for the injuries caused to the mother and her children. The sports car driver may also be liable for colliding with the woman’s van.
