Two Children Still Missing after Car Crash into the Tijuana River
Two children who were involved in a San Diego County auto accident and were swept away by the Tijuana River last week are still reported missing by San Diego authorities. A 5-year old boy and 2-year old girl were thrown into the flowing Tijuana River after their family car crashed into the water last Wednesday. Their 9-year old sister was killed in the car accident while the parents’ conditions were unknown. Several search attempts have been made for a body drifting in the storm waters near the Border Field State Park.
It was early Sunday when migrants near the Border Field State Park reported to the authorities of a body floating in the water. Maurice Luque, spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, said that the fire crew, along with the lifeguards and US Customs and Border Protection agents, searched the area where the body was spotted for hours but found nothing. The area being searched is near where Imperial Beach and San Ysidro meet the Mexican border. The bodies of the 5-year old and 2-year old have not been found.
We can only hope and pray that the children lost in the Tijuana River will soon be found by the authorities and brought back home to safety. According to authorities, last week’s storms caused the water in the dam upstream to nearly crest, leading to a large amount of water to flow through the area.
