San Diego Head-On Car Crash Injures CHP Officer
An officer of the California Highway Patrol was injured on August 1, 2009, when a woman driving a stolen car ran into the cruiser head-on. The pursuit began around 8:30 a.m. along San Diego's Interstate 805.
The car was followed by a CHP officer onto West Street, which is a dead-end road close to Imperial Avenue in San Diego's Mountain View neighborhood. The woman driving the stolen vehicle backed the car into a utility pole before driving straight towards the officer, who at that point had already gotten out of his car and had his gun drawn. While the officer jumped out of the way, the woman rammed a second patrol car that had arrived at the scene.
After the car crash, the woman still refused to obey commands from the officers. She was taken into custody after officers fired a Taser at her. The injured CHP officer whose car was hit was taken to the hospital for some medical complaints following the incident but was later released.
