Four Marines Injured, One Killed in San Clemente Car Accident
A United States Marine was killed on August 2, 2009, when the car he was riding in as a front seat passenger crashed into a tree in San Clemente. He has since been identified as a 22-year-old corporal.
Cpl. Edmond K. Vandecasteele IV, of Rockingham, N.H. had been an ammunition technician with the 1st Marine Division based at Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, according to 2nd Lt. Joshua Benson. The fatal San Diego area car crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday in the 200 block of Avenida Vista Montana in the Orange County city just north of the Camp Pendleton Marine base. The other three riders in the cars were also Marines. The driver is still listed as being in critical condition at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, according to Benson. The two back seat passengers escaped without serious injury.
