San Diego Child Suffers Head Injuries After Hillcrest Car Accident

Just before festivities of San Diego's Pride Weekend began on July 17, 2009, a two-vehicle car accident in Hillcrest, the hub of San Diego's LGBT community, left a 10-year-old child with serious head injuries in the wake.

San Diego police reported that the auto accident occurred around noon on Friday, July 17 when a southbound motorist made an illegal U-turn in the 4000 block of Sixth Avenue, crossing into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The child had been riding in the southbound car. Paramedics who arrived on the scene took the child to the hospital for treatment of a skull fracture, while no other injuries had been reported. While grown adults rarely win in a car versus person battle, children are even more susceptible to injuries and trauma in such collisions, and many forget this when getting on the road. It is crucial to always remember that anyone can be on the road at any given time, and that we are to share it. Please follow all posted signs and guidelines, as they are there for the protection of the public, and yourself.
