Woman Seriously Injured in San Diego County Auto Accident on Interstate 15

North San Diego County saw a car wreck today on Interstate 15 involving a woman from Lake Elsinore, interrupting her commute and leaving her seriously injured.

The injury to Susan Jacobson, 52, occurred around 1 p.m. in the Rainbow area while she was driving along the I-15 southbound in a 1997 Ford Explorer and lost control of her vehicle. The San Diego auto accident occurred when Jacobson's car then hit a guardrail along the freeway's center median, and then continued to veer across the traffic lanes to the right where it struck a tree on the shoulder of the interstate 15 near Rainbow Valley Boulevard. The sport utility vehicle overturned and rolled down a 40-foot embankment off the side of the road. You can read more about this San Diego car wreck in this MyValleyNews.com story.

Paramedics who arrived on the scene airlifted Jacobson to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where she is being treated for her severe injuries, including fractures to her neck, ribs and face, according to CHP public affairs officer Eric Newbury. Two southbound lanes on the freeway were closed in the San Diego area following the car wreck injury to allow for investigation and cleanup.

While there were thankfully no others injured, it is not uncommon for other cars passing by on the freeway to become involved once a car loses control and spins into other lanes.
