Suspect to Stand Trial Following Pacific Beach DUI Car Crash

Two months ago, in February, we posted this article about a Pacific Beach DUI car crash where Emily Cathleen Dowdy, a pedestrian who was hit by Alan Lester Mabrey while he was intoxicated. The pedestrian accident happened on the intersection of Reed Avenue and Mission Boulevard when the drunk Mabrey attempted to make a right turn, but instead hit Dowdy.

Alan Mabrey, who according to a San Diego Deputy District Attorney had a blood-alcohol level of .22 an hour and a half after the incident, left the scene to get a burger at Burger King. After he got his burger, he returned to the scene and confessed to San Diego Police officers that he had hit someone.

After a two day hearing, Judge Michael Wellinton ordered Mabrey to stand trial on charges of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run causing death, DUI causing death and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or higher causing death. Mabrey has also had six previous drunken driving convictions from all over the country. He faces 15 years to life in prison. You can read more in this 10news.com story.
