San Diego Freeway Police Chase Ends in Car Crash
At about 9:15 p.m. Monday night, police officers in San Diego started on the pursuit of car thief, which would later result in a public crash just minutes later. Having identified a reported stolen car, police signaled for the driver to pull over, which was the opposite of what ended up happening. A chase ensued with patrol and gang-unit officers following on westbound state Route 94 near the busy Interstate 805. You can read more about this San Diego car accident in this 10News.com story.
The suspected thief driving the stolen car defiantly drove up to about 90 miles per hour while leading the patrol chase. A police officer reported to the newspaper that the suspect proceeded to get on the 805 southbound, exited at Imperial Avenue and got back on the 805, this time northbound, and then chose to head east on Route 94. After the freeway fiasco, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the car exited at College Avenue and headed north where he was abruptly stopped once he crashed at College Grove Way. By 9:25 p.m., the driver and passenger were taken into custody by authorities.
While there were thankfully no fatalities throughout the ordeal, the location of these events all took place in very public, very busy and congested areas which are known for the high number of auto accidents in San Diego even without these extreme conditions. While Interstate 805 has recently had a lot of attention due to the large amount of recent fatal crashes, SR-94 is not without its own record, and we remind you all while driving on any road to be cautious and safe while traveling in a vehicle, especially as circumstances beyond your control can very easily affect you.
