Robert Johnson Helps Save Lives After Losing His Own in San Diego Bay Minivan Accident
In the last week we posted two stories (here and here) about a couple, Robert Johnson and Margaret Johnson, that plunged their mini-van into the San Diego Bay just off of Harbor Drive. It is not yet known why Margaret Johnson, the driver, directed the vehicle towards the bay. The couple had just finished visiting with out-of-state family and their grandson at the Sheraton Hotel when their vehicle plunged into San Diego Bay. Margaret was found by San Diego divers near the driver's seat and Robert in the rear of the van.
Both Robert and Margaret Johnson were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center where Margaret remains in critical condition. Robert, on-the-other hand, passed away. But his family has some solace in the fact that his death has helped save two others. Two people received Robert Johnson's kidneys on Friday, Good Friday, in separate transplants here in Southern California. You can read more about Mr. Johnson's generous gift of his kidneys in this SignOnSanDiego.com story.
Robert Johnson was also the victim of Parkinson's disease and both his wife and he used to attend Calvary Baptist Church in Oceanside.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret Johnson who is still in a horrible state. San Diego County Investigators are still trying to understand what happened that fateful night.
